Love Is All (feat. Liz Elensky) by Marc Rapson featured in his excellent Dark vs. Light EP. I got mine from Betino’s Record Shop, my favorite record store in Paris, France. It came in a simple plastic sleeve, looking like a promotional record or self-produced one for which the artist had barely enough money for the pressing.

Romain, Betino’s sidekick, insisted I sample it even though I looked at the record quite suspiciously. He knew I was no huge fan of electronica/drum’n’bass/house music. I was astonished to feel such a quality groove percolating through its few tracks. Months after, it keep showing up on my turntable quite regularly.

1Q84

1Q84

I received the Alfred A. Knopf hardcover, English edition of Haruki Murakami’s 1Q84 a few days ago and I am already a huge fan. The fonts, the layout and the paper quality are awesome.

This is one of the reasons I feel it hard to abandon ‘dead wood’ and jump entirely on the eBook bandwagon. The same goes for vinyls vs. digital music or medium format film photography vs. digital photography. Just don’t get me started, will you?

Sascha Welter knows about my passion for jazz and photography and he was kind enough to share this image with me.

I don’t know the story behind it but that’s fine. It already “speaks” mounds. Enjoy.

Life without jazz doesn’t worth it, does it? The intertwinement of the instruments in this Portico Quartet piece called Zavodovski Island is beyond words. Soprano saxophone, hang, double bass and percussion all come together to celebrate rhythm & melody.

Life is jazz. Jazz is life.

Danger by The Lijadu Sisters. This is a great piece of Afrofunk straight out of Lagos, Nigeria. The album was originally issued on LP in 1976. Afrodisia has reissued it recently for our delight.
